At Sugino Studio we take Halloween very, very, VERY seriously! So seriously that we’ll even dress up on a day filled with back to back meetings, a pre-pro and a wardrobe call. The best part is seeing the faces of clients when they walk in and see us all done up. Check out the gang’s costumes below. Try and guess who we are. The answers will be at the end of the post. Also for old times’ [...]

Location Location Location!
Todd McLellan, in collaboration with BBDO Toronto, spent the day hanging out in a hangar at the Oshawa Airport to shoot the latest Mercedes-Benz Sprinter ad. Check out this shot Todd took, not with hipstamatic, while on location: They chose the hangar because it met the “white warehouse” look the client desired — and the bare beams were perfect for that industrial look. Plus the hangar met the shot’s height and space requirements. Todd says: “It was [...]

The Debate: Todd “vs.” Eden on Camera Apps
Two of our photographer/director/DOPs, Todd McLellan and Eden Robbins, are pals. But we discovered a secret, simmering feud between them when it comes to the ubiquitous photo apps (Hipstamatic, Instagram, etc.). So, instead of allowing matters to erupt into fisticuffs, we invited them to air their dirty laundry right here on our blog. In this corner…Todd McLellan The minute I moved to digital, I was finished with rebates and fogged film. So I never understood the [...]

Unleash the Beasts!
After shooting the still for Guinness Extra Stout, which features lions, cobras and vultures, Eden Robbins let the beasts run free! Not dangerously free, mind you. He and senior digital artist Maciej Roszkowski brought the ad to life with a motion side-project. (Yes, they were showing off a little!) With Eden’s direction and Maciej’s magic, you see all the creatures in action and hear a grand, symphonic track. Heck, you can almost taste the beer! – |Evolve or [...]

We Believe in Maciej
Maciej “Magic” Roszkowski, Sugino Studio’s Senior Digital Artist, lives up to his name every day. He, along with Digital Artist Miho Matsuoka, puts the crucial final touches on the creative team’s motion and stills. Often, Maciej goes beyond the call of duty (uh, he loves gaming, too). Such was the case with Eden Robbins’ Guinness Extra Stout project with Grip Limited’s Art Director Simon Newman. Here’s the ad: An architect of digital layers, Maciej weaved together the intricate fibers of [...]

We Know Jack!
Cold-weather auto spots can get pretty down-to-basics, both in imagery and script. But Ford Canada with Y&R, once again went funky with their Winter Ready spot. Tantrum‘s Dominik Bochenski directed and Sugino Studio‘s own Todd McLellan was DOP. This time around, Sugino Studio’s longtime client challenged the one and only Jack Frost, arbiter of all things chillin’, to thwart their winter-friendly packages. He got booted in the end. To make sure Jack was chilly enough for his close-up with Mr. McLellan, makeup artist Travis [...]
